Rheinmetall Air Defence and Silvus Technologies have signed an agreement to integrate Silvus’ RFeye passive radio-frequency sensors into Rheinmetall’s Skynex ground-based air-defence system and Skymaster command-and-control platform, according to Unmanned Airspace’s report.
The planned integration would add a sensing layer that monitors electromagnetic emissions rather than transmitting a signal of its own. That is intended to help operators detect and locate aerial platforms while reducing the chance that the sensor itself reveals its position. Within Skymaster, the sensors are intended to supplement radar coverage and contribute to a continuous air picture and recognised electromagnetic picture, Unmanned Airspace reports.
Military Aerospace reports that RFeye monitors electromagnetic activity to detect, analyse and geolocate RF emitters. Its account also identifies the main operating limitation: passive RF sensing depends on an aerial platform producing an identifiable emission. A non-emitting aircraft or uncrewed system may therefore remain unseen by this layer, making the agreement an interoperability decision rather than evidence of a standalone detection capability.
The fetched reports do not disclose RF bands, detection ranges, geolocation accuracy, test conditions or an operational fielding date. They describe an announced integration agreement, not completed integration, a confirmed deployment or a demonstrated performance result. The documented function is consequently narrower but clear: RFeye is intended to provide passive emitter detection and location within Skynex and Skymaster, while radar and other sensors remain necessary for a broader air picture.
